One big beach. The United Arab Emirates is a Gulf state. It’s on the Arabian Gulf, which is also known around the world as the Persian Gulf. The peninsular Arabs are so sensitive about this naming issue that they not only rise up in anger at anyone making this ‘mistake’ but they also blacken the word ‘Persian’ on any imported text books. They would rather it just be called ‘The Gulf’ than have any other word but Arab as the adjective.

In the UAE the beach starts at the water line, moves inland a few yards, passes patches of grass and scrub and just keeps on going until it hits the Red Sea on the other side of the peninsula. Here and there it bumps solidly into a city or village. It smacks into a barren mountain range in what’s called the ‘north’ of the country, which is really southeast, where it continues into Oman to stumble significantly over an older and more settled civilization.

It is amazing to see what oil has done for this small country. From this big beach modern cities arise with groups of spraying fountains, gleaming skyscrapers, numerous marbled shopping malls, greened roadways, super star hotels, and manicured parks. Then on those roadways, the reckless, discourteous way people drive in their many Land Cruisers, Range Rovers, BMWs reminds you that underneath all the glitter lies the beating heart of a third world country. This is where the UAE Sellers family works, lives and goes to school, and this blog is where our adventures are chronicled.

Each new chronicle is added as a comment.

Blogger Buzz (A Blog)

Blogger Buzz. Would you like to know more about Blogging? This blue blog link above goes to a blog blog -- or, bloggers' blog. Unfortunately, your problem is a little different this time, but in a similar way many in your family have had enough experience and access to information to give you ideas to help you get better after you come home from your kidney operation. We have ideas about food, drink, and activities that will help you regain your strength and health. Frieda has been going through her own experience with cancer and as a result, all of us in her family have been going through it with her. Sharon has certainly been exposed to a lot of valuable info in her work and while helping Frieda. Again, we are all here for you and want to help. We believe you can get through this. We want to give you encouragement by giving you ideas about what you can do to get strong and stay strong.

Get Well Grandpa!

As well all know, Grandpa Marvin is in the hospital at the time of this posting. An infected kidney has been removed and cancer was found inside. Also at this time, Grandpa's digestive system has not yet kicked in. We know that the cancer did spread to the lymph system and may be other places in his body and he must now get additional treatment. Grandpa's present health story seems to be an ever changing one so Mark Hornboggle selected this topic as a starter for this family blog. I invite Grandma to post updates about Grandpa's health situation so we can all follow along. I invite Grandpa to post his own feelings and thoughts he would like to share with other members of the family. I invite other family members to express their 'get well' messages to Grandpa and encouragement messages to other members of the family. I thank all those in the family who actively participate in this weblog.

Each new addition about Grandpa's health and any get well messages are added as comments.

All the best.

Hornboggle
